Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting sire Fire Away came up with another good looking winner at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
His two-year-old daughter Fortress Of Fire made the perfect start to her career when making a winning debut over 1200m.
The Michael Roberts trained filly hit the front 200m from home in Sunday’s Mandathani Maluleka (30 years) Maiden Juvenile Plate, and powered away to score by three lengths.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Fortress Of Fire is out of the Fort Wood mare She’s A Fortress.
The filly was a R550 000 purchase from the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale.
Fortress Of Fire is one of several promising two-year-olds representing Fire Away this season, with others including Cape Racing Sales Cape Slipper hopeful Military Command, and Fiery Countess.
A War Front half-brother to G1 winner and G1 sire Mr Speaker, the G3 Dixie Stakes winning Fire Away is also the sire of top three-year-olds Confederate and Fire Attack, the first two finishers in the recent G1 TAB SA Classic.
Out of a daughter of unbeaten legend Personal Ensign, Fire Away has ten lots on offer at the National Yearling Sale, including a full-brother (Lot 33) to Fire Attack, and half-brother (Lot 188) to G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Brave Mary.
