Appalachian Stakes success for Fire Away relative

Wilgerbosdrift’s blue blooded young War Front horse Fire Away gained a further boost to his impressive pedigree when his close relative Jouster won the G2 Appalachian Stakes presented by Japan Racing Association (1600m) at Keeneland on Saturday.

A three-year-old daughter of Noble Mission, Jouster made all the running to capture the Appalachian Stakes by an easy one and a half lengths.
Jouster was a $360,000 purchase from the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale from the Lane’s End consignment. Frank Brothers, a longtime buyer for owners Starlight Racing, signed the ticket.
The victory was the third in this race for trainer Todd Pletcher, who also sent out winner’s Ocean Drive (2003) and Audacious Chloe (2007).

Now a winner of three of her six starts (she had been runner up in the G3 Florida Oaks previously), Jouster is out of the Street Cry mare Playtime. The latter, herself a daughter of Breeders’ Cup winning champion Storm Flag Flying, numbers the legendary racemare and broodmare Personal Ensign as her third dam.Never beaten in 13 starts, and North America’s Broodmare Of The Year in 1996, Personal Ensign also ranks as the granddam of Wilgerbosdrift’s well performed young stallion Fire Away.

The latter, a son of world leading sire War Front, earned over $600 000 during a career which saw Fire Away win the G3 Dixie Stakes and two other black type races.
