Wilgerbosdrift’s red hot sire Fire Away came up with yet another big-race winner on Sunday, when his son Military Command won the Cape Racing Sales Cape Slipper (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Under a positive, front running ride from Craig Zackey, the Peter Muscutt trained two-year-old was quickly away and went out to make the running.
With 400m left to run, Military Command kicked again, and he powered on strongly to win Sunday’s R1.5 million contest impressively by two lengths.
Bred by Kilimanjaro Bloodstock, Military Command has won two of three starts.
The colt, who is out of the High Chaparral mare Lady Val, was a R425 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Military Command, bred on similar lines to the War Front sired stakes winners Intelligence Cross and Sweet Orange, picked up R937 500 for his win on Sunday.
His red-hot sire Fire Away had gone close to having another big race win on Friday, when his two-year-old daughter Fiery Countess finished second in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery.
Other flagbearers representing Fire Away this season include Confederate and Fire Attack, the 1-2 finishers in the G1 TAB SA Classic, and Listed Ibhayi Stakes winner My Best Shot.
The latter rates a leading contender for Friday’s Listed East Cape Guineas.
Fire Away has ten lots on offer at the National Yearling Sale, including a full-brother (Lot 33) to Fire Attack, and a half-brother (Lot 188) to G1 Allan Robertson Championship queen Brave Mary.
