Wilgerbosdrift’s homebred champion, and resident sire, Hawwaam, made a big impression at the recent National Yearling Sale.
The five time G1 winner ended the 2025 National Sale as the third Leading Sire by Aggregate. Hawwaam had all 20 of his yearlings on offer sell for a total of R13.1 million, with his yearlings averaging an impressive R655 000.
Hawwaam’s yearlings averaged higher than such top-class stallions as Fire Away, What A Winter, Querari and One World, to name a few.
The champion son of Silvano had yearlings make up to R1 600 000, with his top lot at the National Sale being the Wilgerbosdrift consigned Columba Star (Lot 160), who was knocked down to Hollywood Racing.
Columba Star, a half-brother to two winners including the stakes placed Hope Is Power, is out of the Kahal sired G3 Starling Stakes winner Sarasota, whose relatives include, among others, the Silvano sired G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Do You Remember.
In total, Hawwaam had five yearlings make up R1 000 000 or more at the National Sale this year, with another six yearlings by the sire fetching R500 000 or more.
Hawwaam’s full-sister In Limbo also made her mark at the 2025 National Yearling Sale. In Limbo’s Rafeef colt Waiting Game (Lot 136) was sold to Form Bloodstock for R2 200 000.
The second foal for his dam, who also numbers Listed Kings Cup runner up Celestial City as a full-brother, Waiting Game was consigned to the auction by Wilgerbosdrift.
By the same sire as outstanding stallion Vercingetorix, Hawwaam, who currently ranks as one of South Africa’s Leading First Season Sires, was the Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2018-2019.
